PH+ Heirship Program:

Sign Up for a Free Will and Succession Plan!

People’s Housing + (PH+) recently kicked off its heirship program at the Andre Callioux Center. Broad Community Connections co-presented the event, which included dinner and a panel that included attorneys Tyralynn Wells-Donald from Wells Law and Title, Jay Daniels from Infinity Title and David Birdsong from Gulf South Title,  and moderated by Home Bank’s Kelvin Luster.

PH+’s CEO Oji opened the night by telling the audience, which numbered more than 100 people, one PH+’s plans for 2025.

“We were able to do 50 free wills last year, and that was just the start.”

With sponsorships from Home Bank, Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas and JP Morgan Chase, PH+ plans to complete at least 100 free wills and succession plans through the heirship program. Director of Stewardship & Community Engagement Erania Ellis points out how important wills and estate planning are for New Orleans families.

“It’s so critical that we, Black American families, know how to prepare upon the death of a loved one,” Ellis says. “Too often we aren’t ready, so we fail to protect our assets and potential generational wealth” Erania Ellis

Next steps

The  program is open to anyone who is interested, and PH+ is hoping  this can make a difference for New Orleans families, especially those living on low-to-moderate incomes.

Even if you didn’t attend the opening event, you can still sign up for a free appointment with one of the program's attorneys, but don’t delay because registration is now open and filling up fast. If you are already opening probate (starting the legal process of handling a loved one’s will and estate), please contact one of the attorneys to determine if we will be able to assist you.
